The effect of diazepam on the heart rate and the blood pressure increased by ketamine

Abstract
In order to investigate how diazepam modulates the cardiovascular effects of ketamine, elevation of the heart rate and the blood pressure, we observed the changes of the heart rate and the blood pressure by administration of ketamine and diazepam.
The results were as follows:
1. In ketamine(2 mg/ kg) receiving group(17 cases), the heart rate increased 16~19 beats per minute (25%) and the blood pressure also increased (25%).
2. In diazepam(0.4mg/kg) receiving group(17 cases), the heart rate did not change significantly, but the blood pressure decreased 6~7mmHg (7%).
3. In ketamine(2mg/kg) 3minutes after diazepam(0.4mg/kg) premeditation receiving group (17 cases), the heart rate increased 5 beats per minutes (6%) but the blood pressure did not change significantly.
4. From the above results, it suggests that diazepam depress the effect of ketamine which increases the heart rate and the blood pressure.
